It's not textured like wood, it's a smooth finish, however it's not high gloss like plastic.

No there are open for ease of use, however depending on the specific vegetable/fruit you are growing you can add some sort of shelter that would be suitable and allow whatever you are growing to survive.

It is recommended to use a silicone-based paint and yes it is best to use a primer.

I now have four of these. They sit on the edge of the concrete driveway next to what would otherwise be just a boundary fence. I enjoy being able to keep lots of colour in the planters and being slightly disabled I find them very easy to attend to and keep colourful.

I ordered three of these, 2 rectangle and 1 square one to run along the side of my deck and they are great. We did get one that had one part that was faulty but did get faulty part replaced sent directly from manufacturer no problem at all. Easy to build with clear instructions. We spray painted them black too and they look great
