This probably comes in the stupid question category but I'll ask anyway: Can these be freestanding, used as windbreaks? If so, how would they be put into the ground?

Yes you could, the easiest way would be attaching them to a base - how about a planter?

Hi are these completely weather proof?
A:
Bamboo is a grass, therefore more water resistant and resilient than hardwood, but it is not immune to water damage from rain over time - we recommend coating these with CDX50 timber protection or similar to prolong their life.
